Last weekend, we attended the Taking Action For Animals
Conference in Washington, D.C.
This year the main focus is on legislation to end the cruelty of “puppy
mills”, operations that treat breeding as a factory, in conditions that can
hardly be imagined.
We visited both of our Senators’ offices to lobby for
support of “Baby’s Bill”; named for a crippled poodle that has become the rally
flag of the effort. “Baby” was rescued after having so many litters in her
confinement that her leg had to be amputated. Her vocal cords had been cut to
end her cries for help.
Please join us
in this effort. These “mills” churn out thousands of puppies, many of which end
up in our already overrun shelters. They use valuable resources donated by many
generous animal lovers, hours of volunteer work and space that is so limited in
our shelters. Much is wasted to enrich the inhumane owners of such
enterprises.
Please join us in stopping puppy mills. In 1949, Craig
Burton said, “Some folks insist that believing in
animal rights is like a religion. But religion asks followers to believe in
things nobody can see, while animal rights advocates ask followers to see
things nobody can believe.” Viewing the video clips below makes believers of us all.
